About the Program

Program Overview
The Computer Science program at Garden City Community College prepares students for a variety of technology careers, including software development, computer security, and IT support. The program is designed to provide a strong foundation in computer systems and programming.

Flexible Pathways
Students can choose from multiple degree and certificate options based on their goals. This flexibility allows students to either enter the workforce quickly or continue their education.

Industry Certifications and Transfer Options
Students have the opportunity to earn industry-recognized certifications while completing their coursework, or they can follow a transfer pathway to a four-year university to continue their studies in computer science or a related field.

Associate in Computer Science - 63 credit hours

COMP.AS: Students wanting to go into computer programming or software engineering would choose the CS degree. With an emphasis in advanced math and physics, students will develop strong problem-solving skills, as well as foundational skills in software development.

Highlights

Our dedicated computer lab is designed for students to have hands-on experience with computer equipment including laptops, desktops, routers, switches, Access Points, and various software programs. Allowing the students to gain basic skills to prepare them for the future workforce.

Virtual machine labs and simulations will allow students to gain additional skills in their area of interest.

Other Information

At GCCC you will gain the skills to troubleshoot computers, write programs, and to keep you safe from computer threats.

Scholarship

Kansas Promise Scholarship Eligible
This program qualifies for the Kansas Promise Scholarship, giving you the opportunity to earn a degree or certificate at little to no cost.

The Kansas Promise is a “last-dollar” scholarship that covers tuition, fees, books, and other program-related expenses not already paid by other scholarships or grants. It’s available to eligible Kansas students enrolled in high-demand programs. In return, recipients agree to live and work in Kansas for two years after completing their program.
